DALE JOHNSON BIOGRAPHY

After finishing a stint in the Army Security Agency, Dale Johnson traveled throughout Central America, living for a time with the Choco Indians in lower Panama in the jungles near the Colombian border. He did his first filming on this trip.

On returning to the United States, he earned his degree at the University of Texas. While engaged in studies there, he began working in the commercial film business in Dallas where he filmed hundreds of commercials, documentaries, and two theatrical features. He worked on televisions specials which aired on ABC and CBS networks. He then spent two years directing and filming the outdoor television series, “The Lone Star Sportsman”, which took him all over the United States and several foreign countries.

Dale  then joined the film unit attached to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, producing public relations and documentary films on the Space Program. As a writer/producer, several of his films collected various awards. He spent five years at NASA working on many films during the ‘Skylab’ era.

Moving to Alaska, he formed his own company, Trailwood Films, producing commercials and documentaries. Many of these films won prizes, and two of them collected the prestigious CINE Golden Eagle.

Because of his keen interest in wildlife and photographic ability, he has been profiled in National Wildlife magazine. His most recently completed film for the National Forest Service, won a Gold Medal at the New York International Film Festival.

Dale was added to the Travelogue Hall of Fame and awarded the Best of Show at the 2008 Travel Film Convention. He has also edited the National Geographic Special, “Wolf Pack”, about the wolves of Yellowstone, and continues to produce wildlife documentaries for television sales abroad.

Dale now resides in Lubbock, Texas.
